Bitumen and asphalt, primarily used for paving roads, are sticky, black and highly viscous or semi-solid oil-based materials. The terms asphalt and bitumen are often used interchangeably to mean both natural and manufactured forms of the substance.
They are typically stored and transported at temperatures around 150°C (300°F). The tippers carrying asphalt should be covered properly to prevent heat loss and to protect against rain or snow. In cold climates, asphalt must be extra protected with a cold resistant cover which prevents condensation.
Fit for the job
We have developed the S9350, a special technical textile to protect asphalt and bitumen during transportation. The width of S9350 is 305 cm (10 feet), which is broader than most tarps on the market. You will require less stitching and handling. As a result, you can reduce your production time substantially.
We use a black yarn (unlike most other tarps, where a white yarn is used) in combination with a black silicone coating. This ensures an intense black that will stay for many years and that it’s easy to clean.
S9350 resists to temperatures up to 180°C (382°F) without negative effects on colour or mechanical values. The same accounts for cold circumstances up to -30°C (-22°F). Due to its unique composition, the fabric is perfectly suitable to cover these substances, which can contain sulfur and several heavy metals such as nickel, vanadium, lead, chromium, mercury, arsenic, selenium and other toxic elements. Additionally, they rapidly degrade plasticizers used in normal tarps.
Any tarp or cover made of Sioen S9350 is easy to handle because it is light. It’s about 300 grams per square meter (0.98 ounces per square foot) lighter than a traditional PVC tarp, does not stick, and opens and closes faster.
The S9350 tarp ensures a minimum heat loss during transportation. In addition, there is no risk of quality loss for the transported asphalt, tar or bitumen.
S9350 resists condensation. No water drops can fall on the transported asphalt, tar or bitumen, ensuring optimum quality.
